Arts-in-Education

CCCA Arts-in-Education Program:

The Caroline County Council of Arts, Inc. (CCCA) invites AiE grant applications from public and private schools in Caroline County for the coming school year. The purpose of the grant is to enhance education through arts.

Schools may submit applications for extra-curricular activities that use either - aritist-in-residence or visiting performers. Matching funds are required for all AiE grants, thus the school must provide at least half of the total progam cost from non-State funds.

The CCCA has budgeted $2,000 for AiE matching grants. Based on student enrollment each school is allotted a share of these funds. AiE allocation for the 2009/2010 school year (PDF). Applications are submitted after the event takes place. In order to secure funding, schools must submit their completed AiE applications by May 30, 2010 for the 2009/2010 school year. Any remaining unspent funds after May 30 will be used towards approved applications that went over their individual school budget allotment.

MSAC Visiting Performers Program:

In addition to being eligible for an AiE grant from the CCCA, schools may be eligible for AiE funding directly through the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) if the participating artists are listed in the Arts-in-Education Visiting Performers Roster on the website of the Maryland State Arts Council (www.msac.org). Each artist in the Roster is given an MSAC grant at the beginning of the fiscal year to subsidize visits to schools. In order for Caroline County schools to avail of this additional MSAC funding - you must specifically request a portion of these MSAC provided funds when contacting the artist or booking agent to arrange for a school performance. (The two booking agencies that handle such artists are Young Audiences of Maryland (YAM) and Class Acts Arts (CAA), both of which may grant subsidies of up to 1/3 off the cost of assembly programs. YAM has a limit of two programs per school and CAA has a limit of three per school.)

MSAC Artist in Residence Program:

Schools may also apply directly to MSAC for their Artist-in-Residence program. Residencies are available in performing arts, playwriting, poetry, and visual arts. The application deadline for school year 2010-2011 will be in May 2010. Guidelines will be posted on the MSAC website at least 2 months before the deadline. Schools are notified regarding the outcome of their application in late August. School representatives submit a final report after the residency is complete. Each year the MSAC AiE program hosts an Artist Selection Conference where school representatives meet performing artists and visual artists to talk to them about residencies for the upcoming year.
