Introducing Sharon Guzman: Artist of the Month for February

Forest Fired Pottery is more than just a studio; it’s a testament to the transformative power of passion and creativity. Meet Sharon Guzman, the visionary artist behind Forest Fired Pottery, our Artist of the Month for February. Sharon’s journey into the world of pottery is a story of reinvention, resilience, and the pursuit of a new calling.

After dedicating most of her adult life to raising and educating her three children, Sharon found herself at a pivotal moment as her youngest kids prepared to enter college. It was then that she discovered a newfound passion for pottery. What started as a modest endeavor at her dining room table evolved into a dedicated pursuit that led her to a beautiful studio, lovingly crafted by her husband on their property.

Sharon’s artistic journey reflects her commitment to the craft and the joy she finds in working with clay. Forest Fired Pottery became the canvas for her creative expression, where she shapes clay into beautiful and meaningful pieces. As Sharon puts it, “I am glad you are here and hope you find something beautiful in the clay like I did.”

To share her love for pottery, Sharon will be hosting a special event – the “Heartfelt Ornaments Workshop with Forest Fired Pottery.” Join us on February 3rd and 17th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at The Foundry for a delightful clay class guided by Sharon Guzman herself, register here.

John Liszewski

John Liszewski, born in Bucks County, PA, moved to Maryland in 1977 and embarked on a lifelong journey of artistic expression. Throughout his school years, he honed his artistic skills, spending time in art classes and eventually studying at Bucks Community College.

While pursuing a career, John’s passion for art never waned. He channeled his creativity into cartoons featuring his coworkers and supervisors, reminiscent of the popular Dilbert comics. His talent caught the attention of Army Motors, the publication for the international Military Vehicle club MVCC, where he contributed a regular cartoon series.

After a hiatus, John returned to his cartooning roots with a new character, Jerry Cann, featured in the publication History in Motion.

Beyond cartoons, John has created paintings, drawings, and even murals, showcasing his versatile artistic abilities. He contributed art to the Stuart Tank Memorial Association in Berwick, PA, preserving the memory of WWII’s historic light tank.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, John is a lifelong Karate practitioner, with over 54 years of teaching and training experience. He initiated the program at the Easton YMCA and has continued his involvement with Caroline Rec and Parks for more than two decades.

John is also dedicated to community service, having volunteered for various causes, including Reiki at Easton Memorial, welcoming veterans at the National WWII Memorial for Honorflight.org, and participating in Tarot Tuesday meetings in Denton.

Now retired, John remains active, occasionally taking on part-time work and participating in arts and craft fairs and events alongside his daughter, Emily.

Currently navigating the fascinating realm of interior design at Anne Arundel Community College, Emily’s artistic pursuits have taken a captivating turn. In 2021, she discovered her innate knack for crafting gemstone bracelets, rings, and necklaces, each piece meticulously designed based on the healing properties of the gemstones. This revelation marked the birth of her signature style, where artistry intertwines seamlessly with the mystical energy of precious stones, creating jewelry pieces that resonate with both aesthetics and spirituality.

Artists of the Month: Lori & Jeremy Goldman

Briarhook Farm Ceramics

Artists: Jeremy and Lori Goldman

“We are the Briarhook Farm ceramic artists. Both of us were trained in pottery/ predominantly wheel work beginning as young adults in high school followed by more intensive education in college. After a long pause from ceramics while we both pursued other art mediums and our chosen professional careers, we came back to ceramics in 2018. We put together our home studio approximately 5 years ago after a period of contemplation in which we decided that we wanted to have a studio and that there was no reason to wait until retirement or otherwise for this enjoyment. We sourced our equipment, opting for a premier potter’s wheel and found other items on various sites.

We collaborate on all of the pottery. We each have our favorite shapes/ things to “throw” and we assist each other in the entire process: making, adding decorations or handles, loading the kiln, bisque and glazing, and the final glaze firing. It is always exciting to open a glaze firing and see the resultant finished pottery!  All pieces are stoneware, high fire, oven, microwave, dishwasher safe.

We hope our pottery gives as much joy to everyone as it does to us!”

Check out Lori & Jeremy’s pottery on display and for sale at The Foundry in March and year round!
