Featured Visiting Artist for April: Marcie Wolf-Hubbard

We are thrilled to welcome Marcie Wolf-Hubbard, a talented and passionate artist, to our community this April! Marcie brings with her a wealth of experience and a heart dedicated to both creativity and community engagement.

Marcie holds a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Maryland and studied Fine Art & Illustration at the Maryland Institute, College of Art. With a career that spans over several decades, she has created stunning encaustic (wax) and mixed media paintings that have been widely exhibited along the East Coast. Her works are a beautiful testament to her dedication to the arts and to using creativity as a tool for healing and expression.

As a teacher, Marcie has shared her love for art with students of all ages, including those with disabilities and seniors with dementia. She currently teaches at Glen Echo Park, Yellow Barn Studios, The Smithsonian, and also offers virtual classes from her studio. Her work is rooted in the belief that art has the power to bring people together, fostering a sense of community and connection. One of her students shared, “Students come together to focus on art in what feels like an art community—bringing people out of isolation and getting together to make art. The attention to art has lifted anxiety and inspired us all to continue creating.”

Marcie’s impact extends beyond the classroom. She provides Expressive Arts with Wraparound services for youth and families coping with mental health challenges, helping to create a safe space for emotional expression through the arts.

Her career has also seen her work as an illustrator for magazines and books, including The Shiny Shell, an environmental fantasy illustrated using encaustic painting for her husband, David Hubbard. Marcie’s nature-inspired works will also be featured in *Ashley Rooney’s upcoming book, Green Art: Trees, Roots, and Leaves, highlighting international artists.

Marcie has received numerous grants from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County and other art councils, which have allowed her to share her art and teaching with both children and adults in the community, including those with special needs.

We are honored to have Marcie Wolf-Hubbard as our featured visiting artist this April. Her work and dedication to community creativity make her the perfect addition to our vibrant arts community. Be sure to join us in welcoming her and experiencing her inspiring art workshops this month!
