Advanced: Oil Painting Portraiture

By | News

Join artist Victoria Donovan as she leads a four-week course on Portraiture. In this class we will create a portrait based on Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. Students will learn how to transfer a portrait sketch onto the canvas using various methods, as well as learn how to create an underpainting and create subsequent layers to create the skin tones and flowing hair of the reference with oil paints. This is an advanced course. Students who are familiar with color mixing and basic painting technique are welcome to attend.

Price $100 for 4-week course. Limit 10 participants. 12″x16″ canvas will be provided by CCCA. Please bring your own oil paints, brushes, palettes, rags and mixing mediums. Easels will available at The Foundry; also feel free to bring your own. Register here.

Victoria Donovan is an Eastern Shore Native and studied Painting & Drawing at Salisbury University, earning her BA in Fine Art. She considers herself an artist of many trades as she paints using oil, watercolor, and acrylic but is also a self taught fiber artist creating embroidered works and dabbles in furniture restoration and costume design. Victoria’s work typically explores the use of color to create interesting compositions, portraits being her most common subject. She is also an art teacher in Caroline County, teaching visual arts at Colonel Richardson High School and providing leadership to the National Art Honor Society.
