PRESS RELEASE                                                                                                                                        Tuesday, November 8, 2022

The Caroline County Council of Arts (CCCA) is proud to announce the sale of the Hardee House, an historic property located in Denton, MD, to the Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore (FACES). This building has been the home of FACES since 2011. FACES has been an independent 501(c)(3) organization since 2018.

The Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore (FACES) was founded in 2011 by the Caroline County Council of Arts as a destination for the area’s many quilt and fiber art enthusiasts, visitors, and residents to view historic and recent works by quilters and fiber artists from Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Delmarva Peninsula. As a home to exhibit, retail, studio, and instructional spaces, FACES provides a central networking facility for fiber artists in the region; increases public access to and education about fiber art; fosters and promotes creativity in all areas of fiber art; and works to preserve fiber art skills and traditions. It is a unique place to visit, shop, learn, and find inspiration.

Both FACES and CCCA are proud of the growth and success of this organization, and look forward to continuing their partnership together as arts destinations within the Denton Artsway, offering arts programming in Caroline County and beyond. Current FACES board of directors include: President Victoria McConnell, Vice President Audrey Clemens, Secretary Kelly Kout, Treasurer Cathy Spence, Program and Exhibit Director Kay Butler, Technology Marketing Administrator Kathleen McCulloch and Town Liaison Lisa Orendorf.

The Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore and the Caroline County Council of Arts, Inc. are supported by grants from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority, agencies dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. The Fiber Arts Center is also generously supported by a large number of dedicated fiber artists in the area and beyond who are finding it a place where their love for their art is fostered. For more information visit www.fiberartscenter.com and www.carolinearts.org.

The Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore is located at 7 N. Fourth Street, Denton, MD 21629. The Denton Artsway is an officially-designated Arts & Entertainment district by the State of Maryland and supported by the Maryland State Arts Council.

Artist-in-Residence: Rose Jeon

By | Artist of the Month, Featured News, Foundry Artists, Foundry Artists, News

Rose Jeon

Meet our newest Artist-in-Residence at The Foundry in Denton, MD!

Rose Jeon is a talented illustrator hailing from Marydel, MD. Rose currently resides in Greensboro and is excited for the opportunity to be a full-time artist for the next 3 months at The Foundry. During this time Rose will receive a working wage and art supplies stipend thanks to support from the Caroline County Council of Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council.

Portraits with strikingly realistic details and minimal use of color are amongst Rose’s favorite subjects to delve into. “I find faces exciting and challenging. I am drawn to the unique–whether big, bright eyes, an angular structure of a cheek or jawline, or freckles. I take common shapes we all learn in elementary and create a face. I find it fascinating when the face starts to pop out at me through the drawing, which is my favorite part of the process.” Rose’s subjects range from local friends and muses to celebrities in the movies and music industries.

Rose attended the Delaware College of Art and Design, studying and learning to perfect skills in color theory, painting, and collaging. Rose enjoys creating monochromatic art; exploring texture, shape, contrast and design within each piece.

“To quote Michelangelo regarding his sculpture works, ‘Every block of stone has a statue inside it, and it is the sculptor’s task to discover it.’ I want my art to be able to touch anyone, and I want to create art for everyone.”

Read the rest of Rose’s artist statement here.

Rose Jeon will be The Foundry artist-in-residence from mid-September thru mid-December. Keep an eye out for monthly “Open Studio” opportunities where the public is invited to meet the artist, delve into the creative process, and view the current works underway. For day-to-day glimpses of the artist inner workings in the studio, follow @jeon_rose_arts and @thefoundryartgallery on Instagram and Tik Tok.
