Kurt Plinke: September Artist of the Month

Meet Kurt Plinke: Artist of the Month

Kurt Plinke, a passionate observer of nature for over three decades, is our Artist of the Month for September. His artistic journey began with watercolors under the mentorship of Leland McClellan in Ohio. While pursuing studies in both art and biology at Wilmington College and Bowling Green State University, Kurt’s path briefly intersected with biology. Later, at Towson University, he delved into egg temperas and painting.

A twist of fate brought Kurt and his family to Maryland’s captivating Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore, where he found inspiration in the diverse ecosystems. Over the years, he has meticulously depicted these natural wonders in his detailed watercolors, often focusing on the overlooked elements of nature – from insects to moss-covered rocks. Kurt is also known for his ability to identify and portray the intricate patterns and rhythms found in nature.
